Hot idea: Creating buzz for high-profile events

Shangri-La at the Fort is also at the centre of the city's rapidly emerging lifestyle and business hub, Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Located in one of the tallest towers in the Philippines, the property features contemporary rooms, suites, and residences (aimed as long-staying guests), four restaurants and many more in its retail complex at the base, the massive, two-story, multidisciplinary Kerry Sports fitness centre, and glamorous meetings spaces. It's also a short taxi ride from Makati; even closer is the new premises of the Philippine Stock Exchange, which is just adjacent to the hotel, linked by interior courts that provide the ambience of a multi-level urban plaza.

Its location has attracted the interest of corporate planners, and since its launch, the hotel has established a track record of holding successful events. It hosted a BMW launch one day after opening and a string of events since then-Mercedes Benz Car launch (800 attendees), event for Dell Asia-Pacific (2,000 delegates), Business World Economic Forum (700 people), and the Philippine Star Anniversary Gala (1,000 people).

1. The décor of the ballrooms will certainly inject some glamour into any event, with plenty of crystal, unique lighting, and intriguing artwork. Instead of using traditional chandeliers in the ballroom, designers Hirsch Bedner Associates used thousands of hanging crystals designed by the Czech manufacture Lasvit, the effect reminiscent of intertwined crystal necklaces. Carpets are made with Lurex metallic yarn, while artwork by Filipino artist Bea Valdes adds a local twist. 

2. There is plenty for delegates to enjoy right around the property during short breaks. Part of the set-up of the Shangri-La is a retail section, with stores such at Harley- Davidson of Manila, L'Atelier Lucerne, Philux furniture, and Provenance Art Gallery all at the base of the building. Retail outlets within walking distance include Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bo Concept, Habitat, Mini, Vespa, and Furnitalia. There is also a huge trove of free public art to admire in BGC.

3. At Kerry Sports, a number of customised activities can help teambuilding. These include the Vibe packages, which in addition to the usual food and drinks, creates experiences during breaks and lunch to bring up the energy level of participants. This can range from posture and balancing activities, to stretching and relaxing, to partner-assisted exercises and dance moves. 

4. The hotel's team of internationally trained chefs of varying nationalities brings with it a wealth of experience catering for different groups and ethnicities. They can customise any kind of cuisine depending on the client's preference, whether it be Filipino, Malay, Chinese, Western, and can present it in formats like plated/set, buffet style, cocktail, or banquet.
