QSNCC’s spacious venue accommodated over 50,000 athletes and spectators at BYD HYROX Bangkok, held from 13-16 August 2026.
Organising a successful
fitness event is no longer simply about finding enough space for athletes to
compete. As participation sports grow and go global, organisers need to think
about experiences that bring together sport, community, entertainment, retail
and hospitality.
BYD HYROX Bangkok
demonstrates this shift. Held over four days at Queen Sirikit National
Convention Center (QSNCC), the event welcomed more than 50,000 racers and
spectators from Thailand and overseas, making it the largest HYROX race in Asia
to date.
“As we operate indoors, we
need to identify the most exciting and epic venues in the world,” says Gary
Wan, managing director of HYROX Asia Pacific. “QSNCC is clearly one of the key
locations for HYROX.”
The
event is no longer just the event
QSNCC’s high ceilings and flexible layout could accommodate massive elevated viewing platforms, which gave spectators unobstructed views of the competition zone.Big participation events
have evolved into full-day or multi-day productions, where attendees expect
more than a start and finish line.
QSNCC’s pillarless halls
gave HYROX the flexibility to bring the eight competition stations, partner
booths and event activities together within one open space, creating a smooth
flow for athletes and spectators.
Beyond the competition,
the HYROX experience also featured recovery activations, games and
entertainment, merchandise and F&B, giving athletes and spectators more
ways to engage with the event and spend time at the venue.
For planners, the lesson
is to think beyond the competition itself – and consider how athletes and
spectators arrive, prepare, compete and experience the event throughout the
day.

selection has become more strategic
Planners today need more
than square metres. Flexibility, flow and functionality are equally important,
particularly for a format like HYROX, which combines running with eight
functional fitness stations.
QSNCC’s 78,500 sqm of
flexible event space, facilities and capacity met the requirements of HYROX,
demonstrating how a convention centre can adapt to an unconventional event
format.
Wan also praises QSNCC’s
team for their agility and flexibility in meeting the event’s requirements.
Designed to accommodate large crowds, QSNCC’s expansive foyer spaces housed dedicated registration zones, which helped manage the flow of participants and spectators into the hallsSport,

Next-generation fitness
events are becoming experiential ecosystems, bringing together competition,
community, fan engagement, retail, F&B and sponsorship.
BYD HYROX Bangkok brought
together athletes, spectators, fitness personalities and celebrities from
Thailand and around the world.
At QSNCC, careful zoning
allowed the race, spectator, recovery and retail areas to work alongside
one another, while on-site dining options gave visitors more reasons to stay
and enjoy the experience beyond the competition.
Careful zoning at QSNCC ensured a smooth flow from race into recovery and relaxation zones, giving visitors more reasons to stay and soak up the atmosphere.Destination
matters just as much as the venue
More than 40% of
international racers travelled from Southeast Asia, Europe, Japan and South
Korea, making connectivity, dining, hotels and the wider destination important
considerations when choosing a venue.
Wan also points to
Bangkok’s vibrancy, multicultural character and ability to attract
international visitors as key reasons for its appeal.
QSNCC’s central location,
direct MRT access and proximity to Benjakitti Park elevated the overall experience, while nearby hotels
and shopping centres ensured a hassle-free stay for international athletes and
visitors.
Located beside Benjakitti Park and within easy reach of Bangkok’s MRT network, QSNCC’s central location makes it an attractive venue for global events like HYROX.The key
takeaway? Plan for growth
Organisers need to think
beyond the event they are delivering today. As HYROX Thailand continues to
grow, choosing a venue that can support future expansion becomes increasingly
important.
QSNCC’s scale, flexible
spaces and central location provide the foundation for events to expand as
requirements evolve.
Ultimately, the right
venue isn’t just one that fits today’s event, but one that can grow with it.
