A business hub built for global events

Madrid is a dynamic, cosmopolitan city that has evolved and modernised over the years while preserving its local character and its long-standing reputation as a welcoming destination. That combination of modernity and authenticity makes it one of the world's most sought-after venues for professional meetings and events.

The city's economic foundations are as strong as its cultural appeal. Madrid is the fifth largest region in the European Union by GDP, contributing close to 20% of Spain's national output, with a notably high GDP per capita. More than 14,000 subsidiaries of multinational companies have chosen Madrid as their home, and the city hosts major international institutions including UN Tourism and the World Travel & Tourism Council.

Madrid's business ecosystem is diverse and future-facing. The city has established itself as the data and telecommunications hub of southern Europe, with a particularly strong presence in fintech, digital health, mobility, energy, cybersecurity, gaming and big data – sectors that receive active support from the City of Madrid for their development and for hosting sector-specific events. Over 3,500 active startups, a dense network of accelerators and a thriving venture capital scene confirm Madrid's status as one of Europe's leading innovation ecosystems.

Supporting this knowledge economy is a robust academic and research infrastructure: 11 Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS), 7 institutes of advanced studies, 23 universities and business schools, and a significant concentration of Spain's R&D investment, scientific output and patent registrations. Madrid's talent pool is as deep as it is diverse.

Connectivity is another key asset. Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez Airport closed 2025 with over 68.2 million passengers, cementing its role as one of Europe's major international hubs. A gateway to Europe and a natural bridge to Latin America, North America, the Middle East and Asia – bolstered by historical, cultural and linguistic ties – the airport is currently undergoing an expansion that will take capacity to around 90 million passengers by 2031.

The result: in 2025, Madrid hosted more than 51,000 meetings, generating an economic impact of over 5.5 billion euros. The meetings industry in Madrid accounts for 23% of all MICE business in Spain, reflecting both the city's infrastructure capacity and the trust that international organisers place in it.

Beyond business: Madrid is also about enjoyment

Madrid is far more than a place to do business. It is a city that knows how to look after its guests well beyond the conference room.

A pleasant climate year-round, a rich and varied natural environment both within the city and in its surroundings, and one of the most impressive artistic and cultural heritages in Europe make Madrid a destination that delegates genuinely enjoy. World-class museums, vibrant neighbourhoods, outstanding gastronomy and a nightlife scene unlike any other in Europe ensure that the city leaves a lasting impression on every visitor.

This combination – strong business infrastructure paired with an equally strong leisure offering – is what makes Madrid a destination that attendees want to return to, and one that organisations choose when they want their events to be remembered.

Meetings with purpose: sustainability at the core

Sustainability is not an add-on in Madrid – it is part of the city's DNA, and Madrid Convention Bureau works actively to put it at the heart of every event.

MCB provides organisers with practical tools to manage the environmental and social sustainability of their events: from dedicated sustainability and legacy guides available on the MCB website, to the PLUS platform, an online tool for the comprehensive management of an event's environmental and social impact in Madrid.

At city level, these efforts connect to Madrid 360, the municipal strategy guiding Madrid's transition towards a cleaner, more efficient and more innovative urban model. Through initiatives focused on reducing emissions, promoting sustainable mobility, improving air quality and creating healthier urban environments, Madrid is building a city where economic progress and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.

This commitment has been recognised internationally: Madrid ranks 21 in the GDS Movement Index of sustainable destinations, and in 2026 was recognised as the destination that has made the greatest progress in implementing sustainable actions over the previous 12 months.

The city where meetings come to life

Madrid brings together everything a world-class meetings destination needs: economic strength, exceptional connectivity, a diverse and growing business ecosystem, a rich cultural offer, and a genuine commitment to sustainability. For organisers seeking a city that delivers on every level – for delegates as much as for outcomes – Madrid is the answer.
