Marriott International's select-service brands have been leading the group's robust expansion in Asia Pacific last year-a growth that looks to continue this year. 

The brand is expanding with a stream of hotel openings across its seven brands including Fairfield by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft, Moxy, Element and AC Hotels.

Courtyard by Marriott

The group's Courtyard by Marriott hotels are growing into second and third tier Chinese cities such as Changsha and Tianjin. Additional openings slated for this year will add properties to cities such as Zhengzhou, Shanghai and Chengdu, bringing the total of Courtyard to 19, with another 38 in the signed pipeline.

In South-east Asia, the brand makes its debut in Cambodia with Courtyard by Marriott Siem Reap Resort slated to arrive early this year, which will overlook the sunset vistas of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Angkor Wat. The second half of the year will see the opening of Courtyard by Marriott Phnom Penh.

Signings of Courtyard by Marriott hotels in Nha Trang, Vietnam and Yangon, Myanmar are also in the pipeline and forecasted to open within the next five years. 

Four Points by Sheraton

The group's Four Points by Sheraton saw strong growth last year with 13 new signings. In the coming year, the brand makes its debut in two countries with the opening of Four Points by Sheraton Auckland and Four Points by Sheraton Danang. 

The brand will also be opening at two new addresses this year, Four Points Sydney Central and Four Points by Sheraton Seoul, Gangnam.

Fairfield by Marriott

Marriott is also witnessing rapid growth in its upper midscale hotel segment with its Fairfield by Marriott brand. The brand debuted in Greater China with the opening of Fairfield Nanning Nanhu Park, with eight more openings in China scheduled this year including Fairfield by Marriott Guangzhou Tianhe Park and the Fairfield by Marriott Hangzhou East. 

The brand has also been assertively expanding in South Asia with recent openings in emerging destinations including Amritsar, Coimbatore and Indore, and the opening of Fairfield by Marriott Agra slated this year which will bring visitors within easy access of Taj Mahal.

Fairfield will make its debut in South Korea with two openings, Fairfield by Marriott Seoul and Fairfield by Marriott Busan Haeundae this summer. A second Fairfield in the Songdo district of Busan will be opening in 2019.

Aloft Hotels

Last year, Aloft Hotels made its debut in Australia with the Aloft Perth in May and in Indonesia with the Aloft Jakarta Wahid Hasyim in November. Openings slated for this year include the Aloft Shanghai Zhangjiang Haike and the Aloft New Delhi Aerocity. 


Moxy, a brand catering to Millennial travellers, debuted in Asia Pacific last year with the opening of the Moxy Bandung in October, as well as the openings of the Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho and the Moxy Osaka in Japan in November.

Element Hotels 

Last May, the opening of Element Kuala Lumpur marked the brand's Southeast Asian debut. The opening of Element Chongli last July marked the brand's first ski resort in Asia Pacific, which is situated in the Thaiwoo Ski Resort, Zhangjiakou, China - an official venue for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. 

Element Bali and Element Xiamen Haicang are slated to open its doors to holidaymakers this year. 

AC Hotels

With the signing of the AC Hotel Tokyo this past October, AC Hotels scheduled to debut Asia when the hotel opens in 2020.
