Football enthusiasts take note - Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is on the move with its third Qatar property set to host international sports teams during the run-up to the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Taking over the luxurious Victorian-style building formerly occupied by Grand Heritage Hotel Doha, the five-star Mövenpick Hotel Al Aziziyah Doha officially opened its doors within the city's renowned Aspire Zone sports complex, or Doha Sports City, as of May 1, 2016.
Located in the Al Waab district of Doha, the sports complex will play a critical role to host sports teams leading up to the World Cup, and the 139-room Mövenpick Hotel Al Aziziyah Doha will work in tandem to cater to sports teams and also corporate groups staging events at the nearby Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), a regional hub for meetings and events.
"This property already has a loyal guest following and we look forward to building on this legacy, showcasing Mövenpick's unique style of Swiss hospitality," said Andreas Mattmüller, chief operating officer of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Middle East and South Asia.
Located but a short walk from upscale Villaggio Mall, the new hotel aims to woo sports, business and leisure tourism with five function rooms, a traditional Victoria Tea Lounge, and two contemporary dining offerings which serve Turkish and international cuisine. Mövenpick Hotel Al Aziziyah Doha takes the Swiss hospitality firm's total Qatar inventory to more than 640 keys.
