Prior to its opening, the new International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney has already confirmed an extensive line-up of 35 events for the 2017 events season - among them the Reed Gift Fairs, OZ Comic Con and Beauty Expo.
"The amount of interest and excitement about ICC Sydney is booming and we are thrilled to see the exhibition industry returning to its rightful home in Darling Harbour," said Stuart Ayres, NSW's trade and tourism minister.
"A major contributor to the New South Wales economy, the exhibition industry attracts more than half a million people each year and generates about AU$100 million annually in economic benefit to the state of New South Wales," he said.
Slated to transform the MICE scene for Sydney, Australia's "first fully-integrated, harbourside venue" will be capable of hosting up to three fully separated, self-sufficient events at once.
The project valued at AU$1.5 billion is the epicenter of a larger 20-hectare AU$3.4 AU transformation of Darling Harbour and will feature an innovative 8000-seat fan-shaped main theatre area and the 660+ room ICC Sydney hotel. It is being carried out by the New South Wales Government and Darling Harbour.
ICC Sydney will open next to a new global financial services hub and neighbouring media, technology and knowledge centres just 8 kilometres from the airport.
