September is upon us. And while it might seem too early still to think about the holidays, now is actually the perfect time to start planning your end-of-year activities, according to contributor Sujan Patel, co-founder of

"As summer winds down and fall quickly approaches, it's your job as a business owner to figure out how you're going to get the most out of the upcoming holiday … season," explains Patel, who says the months between October and January are, for many businesses, "the best months out of the year in terms of sales and revenue."

For retailers, leveraging the holidays is easy thanks to the popularity of deals and discounts. For other businesses, however, the holidays are a time to bolster business relationships by saying "thanks."

"The holiday season is … a great time to say thank you to the customers who have helped you grow your business over the past year," Patel says. "Taking the time to show your customers that you appreciate their business and loyalty can go a long way in terms of continuing to sustain and benefit from the relationships you've worked hard to develop over the last 12 months or more."

There are many ways to show appreciation, according to Patel, such as sending a handwritten card or producing a team thank-you video that you share on social media. Whatever gesture you decide on, however, the time to start planning it is now.
