Hot idea: Dine on the tracks

History, heritage appeal and a unique ambience have turned Tanjong Pagar Railway Station into a hot spot for events and functions. Adding to its repertoire of successful events was a special themed dinner organised by My Private Chef, an organiser of bespoke culinary events.

Helmed by owner and entrepreneur Crystal Chua, a dinner event was planned for its client REA Group, who wanted a uniquely Singapore experience that was different and unexpected.

Working with a blank canvas, My Private Chef set up tables for 30 pax, with hawker stalls lined up along the platform to resemble a food street. My Private Chef planned a menu of local delights that represented popular dishes from Malay, Indian and Singaporean cuisines. Besides setting up the kitchen and dining hall, they also managed other details of event organisation such as audiovisual set-up, entertainment planning and door gifts.

Said Chua on holding an event at the railway station: "To ensure that everything is carried out smoothly, it is important to submit the paperwork at least two months in advance. Also, do comply with the guidelines set by the venue owner, SG Land Authority."

Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was gazetted as a national monument in 2011.
