IBTM Events' annual Trends Watch report by Dr Rob Davidson, Managing Director of MICE Knowledge, has good news for the MICE industry. The report, which is now in its 12th edition, has forecasted growth for the industry in 2017 despite the current turbulent geopolitical and economic environment, stating that a "sound education and training system that supports the industry's ex-isting and future professional" puts the industry in a much better place to respond to these chal-lenges. On top of overall growth, Davidson has also predicted that cost per attendee per day and group sizes will increase in almost all world regions.
Released at the company's flagship show, IBTM World in Barcelona, the report also analysed ma-jor trends in the global MICE industry for 2016 and found increased demand for MICE services and facilities and, in some cases, increased budgets.
"Growing uncertainty as a result of unexpected polling results, rising protectionist and populist sentiments and geopolitical and social turmoil led to disparity in the industry's performance re-gionally," said Davidson. "For example, India and China have seen demand from buyers at record levels, despite the slowing growth of the Chinese economy."
