The figures are in and China has overtaken the US as the number one business travel market in the world. China spent $291.2 billion in 2015, about one billion more than the US.
The report by the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) also reported that 2016 is set to see China continue to push ahead in business travel spending with forecasted growth of 10.1 percent for the year.
"Despite a relative slowdown, China's business travel market remains one of the fastest growing in the world," said Michael W. McCormick, GBTA executive director and COO. "China surpassing the United States in business travel spending marks a major inflection point and truly demonstrates the global nature of today's economy."
Investment in travel infrastructure in China continues for both business and leisure travel, with over 70 percent of hotel construction in Asia Pacific being attributed to them.
