Luxury resort brand, One&Only, opened its first Asian outpost this week on Malaysia's Desaru Coast.
Designed by award-winning team at Kerry Hill Architects, Malaysia’s kampung (village) heritage is apparent in the modern design, with each suite featuring private plunge pools and expansive indoor and outdoor spaces.
The resort, which opened on 6 September, is available for exclusive buy-outs. This includes 42 suites, two two-bedroom grand suites, and a four-bedroom villa that features a home office and private spa treatment room.
Intimate gatherings or sunset parties can also be held at the Ember Beach Club, the beachside venue lined with shaded cabanas.
Club One is another avenue for team bonding, where groups can play tennis, go kite surfing, try stand-up paddle boarding, play golf at the Els Club, or sign up for a *Silat Melayu* – traditional Malaysian martial art – class.
For something more relaxing, the Chenot Spa is a holistic choice covering four areas: sport and physical activities, emotional wellbeing, nutrition, and aesthetics. The standard fitness studio is also available, as well as a Pilates studio and yoga pavilion overlooking the beach.
All three restaurants play up the region’s seasonal bounty from the land and sea. Field-to-fork Ambara serves Mediterranean fare, using produce from local farmers and the chef’s garden. Hoshi offers Japanese contemporary cuisine matched with an open bar, while Malaysia’s vibrant flavours are displayed via inventive local specialties at Essential.
Come sunset, the Dusky Monkey opens, offering tailor-made cocktails, regional rums, gins, tonics and fine whiskies matched with small bites.
