Melco Resorts & Entertainment is planning a major upgrade to its Macao portfolio, with a full renovation and rebranding of the Countdown Hotel at its flagship City of Dreams complex in the Cotai district.

The 330-room Countdown Hotel, which closed for renovations in 2021, is now slated to reopen in Q3 2026 as a newly reimagined, all-suite luxury property. According to Melco chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho, the refreshed hotel will house approximately 150 high-end suites, each averaging more than 1,000 square feet (93 sqm).

Ho shared that the group is currently finalising plans for the full renovation of the Countdown Hotel, adding that the new concept would “bring a one-of-a-kind experience to Macao” and strengthen the premium offerings at City of Dreams, according to local media reports.

The Countdown was originally set to reopen in 2023 under the new Libertine branding, but the plan was shelved amid delays.

Melco’s revamp comes as other integrated resorts in Macao also intensify their luxury efforts. MGM China Holdings this week revealed its own plans to create about 60 new suites at MGM Cotai, with renovations expected to complete in early 2026.

Meanwhile, Sands China completed Phase II of its redevelopment at The Londoner Macao, with the full opening of the 2,405-room Londoner Grand – formerly the Sheraton Grand Macao – earlier this year.
