Following a series of high-profile G20 events in 2022, Indonesia's events sector is set to get a leg up with the upcoming F1 Powerboat (F1H2O) World Championship in Lake Toba, North Sumatra.

Taking place on 24-26 February 2023, the F1 Powerboat competition is one of the largest motorboat racing events in the world, attracting 20,000 to 25,000 visitors and on par with Formula 1 or MotoGP.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, has stated that Lake Toba is fully prepared to host the F1H2O World Championship, with facilities and parking lots ready to accommodate the crowds.

The unique circuit, which is located on the lake with a 2.2 km track, will feature viewing areas by the shores.

InJourney, the state-owned tourism holding firm, has also engaged 500 students as event organisers and will provide them with certificates.

Minister Amali has expressed his hope that the F1 Powerboat event will encourage Lake Toba to become a top tourism destination in Indonesia and showcase the world's trust in Indonesia's ability to host international events.
