Green tourism remains the top favourite travel theme for 64% of respondents in a corporate survey conducted by ITE Hong Kong last month. Respondents were corporate and MICE visitors to ITE Hong Kong and comprised 88 companies.
Other themes that are popular: food and wine at 52%; cruising at 38%; volunteerism at 32%; and sports tourism at 27%.
Cruising is a theme that has seen increased popularity among MICE and corporate groups, with respondents indicating the following factors that will influence their decision-making: routing or destination (71%); event facilities (60%), and entertainment options (50%) followed closely by dining experience (48%).
Respondents also indicated continued interest and increased spend on incentive travel and overseas events, with 46% confirming incentive travel groups and 49% confirming overseas events in the next two years. Additionally, 37% respondents indicated that their organisations will spend more on travel in the coming year, outnumbering those cutting back (13%) by almost three to one, while half see no change in spending.
The survey reveals a positive trend of Hong Kong companies being open to exploring unique travel options for groups, with a key focus on enhancing social responsibility and meaningful objectives. While budget sees no major decrease, there is a need for it to be spent more discerningly and to justify ROI.
Last year's ITE Hong Kong was attended by 12,312 regional buyers and visitors, of which 2,265 were from MICE and corporations, and 6,611 were from travel agents or operators. Its two public days drew 89,750 visitors with 87% preferring FIT or private tours.
Organised by TKS Exhibition Services Ltd., the next ITE Hong Kong, comprising the 32nd ITE (leisure) and the 13th ITE MICE, will be held from June 14 to 17, 2018 at Halls 1A to 1E of the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center.
