Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium is set to officially open its doors on 1 March 2025, marking the completion of a major new sports and entertainment venue in the heart of the city. The stadium, located within the Kai Tak Sports Park, is the first new stadium built in Hong Kong in over a decade and is expected to play a pivotal role in the city’s sports infrastructure.
Spanning 28 hectares, the HK$30 billion Kai Tak Sports Park includes not only the stadium but also a range of other facilities designed to support both local and international events. The stadium itself has a seating capacity of 50,000, making it the largest of its kind in Hong Kong. It will be used to host a variety of events, including international football matches, rugby, athletics and concerts, as well as other large-scale events.
The stadium’s design incorporates a retractable roof, allowing it to be used in various weather conditions, enhancing its versatility for different events. The roof also features an integrated LED lighting system, which will create a visually dynamic environment for both sporting events and entertainment performances.

Beyond the stadium, the wider Kai Tak Sports Park features a range of sporting facilities, including a sports centre, a cricket ground, and multiple multi-purpose courts. There are also plans to develop retail, dining, and entertainment options around the park.
The Kai Tak Stadium will play host to major events. The 15th National Games of China will take place at the Sports Park with Hong Kong as co-host alongside Guangdong and Macau; the next edition of the Hong Kong Sevens will likewise be in the new stadium.
British rock band Coldplay will also be playing four shows there in April, while Taiwanese megastar Jay Chou will perform for three nights in June. Meanwhile, Cantopop star and actor Nicholas Tse will be the first Hong Kong musician to hold a solo concert at the stadium on April 25 and 26.
