Built in a formerly abandoned quarry, InterContinental Hotels Group's 200th property will surely leave an unforgettable impression on your delegates.
InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, which launched on Monday, combines luxury design with the beauty of Mother Nature. A mostly subterranean structure, it was nominated as one of the architectural wonders of the world by the National Geographic Channel's MegaStructures series for its pioneering architectural design.
Situated within the Sheshan Mountain Range, the 336-room hotel stretches 88m deep into the quarry with only two floors above ground and 16 below ground level. Most spectacular, and ideal for VIPs, are the two underwater levels where duplex lofts include a landing deck at water level and underwater bedroom with aquarium view. Butler service is also included.
The Club InterContinental lounge, just above water level, is ideal for social and business meetings with a view. But the absolute gem is the 900sqm Grand Ballroom, divisible into three function rooms with the capability for drive-in display.
Eight meeting rooms, as well as meeting registration areas and exhibition space, allow planners to maximise the floor space for a spectacular event.
