A number of events taking place in the US have enhanced levels of security for attendees, with a significant police presence inside and outside of venues.
According to a report in Reuters, the additional security follows the shooting in December of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. He was killed in New York where he was due to attend an investor meeting.
The Reuters report says that industry conferences that took place in January, including the J.P. Morgan annual healthcare conference in San Francisco, The National Retail Federation's conference and expo in New York and the annual CES technology show in Las Vegas, were all subject to enhanced security arrangements.

In a statement prior to CES taking place, John T Kelley, vice president and CES show director had said: “In response to recent tragic events, we have increased our already robust security protocols. We continue to monitor the situation and are in touch with our security partners and law enforcement officials.”
For J.P. Morgan’s healthcare event, media reports detailed a much higher level of security than in previous years, with police dogs stationed outside the Westin St. Francis Hotel where the event took place and security at every corner. Steel barricades were also used to help control the exit and entry of the attendees.
