For the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, all 10 sports originally set for Songkhla will be relocated as the nation’s south recovers from its worst floods in years.
Taking place from 9 to 20 December, the Games were originally planned to span the Songkhla province, Bangkok and Chonburi.
The affected sports formerly set to be hosted in Songkhla are: boxing, pencak silat, men’s football (qualifiers), chess, judo, kabaddi, karate, wrestling, petanque and wushu.
All will be relocated to Bangkok with the exception of wrestling, which will be staged in Chonburi Province’s Pacific Park Sriracha instead.
Meanwhile, billiards and snooker will relocate from Pattaya in Chonburi to Bangkok’s Muang Thong Thani.
The venue changes were approved during the meeting of the Organising Committee for the 33rd SEA Games and 13th Asean Para Games on 27 November. The meeting was presided over by Thailand Tourism and Sports Minister Atthakorn Sirilatthayakon and attended by Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, Kongsak Yodmanee, representatives from sports associations and related officials, among others.
With “severe” flooding causing damage and impacting readiness particularly in Songkhla Province, “these adjustments were made to ensure safety for athletes, officials, and spectators, and to safeguard the international standards of the Games”, the committee stated in a Facebook post.
