Danang eyes diversified MICE market mix

While China and Korea proved to be strong markets for Danang's business events industry, the city is looking diversify its reach and expand into the Hong Kong market. 

Arrivals from Hong Kong leapt by 35% from 11,046 in 2016 to 14,903 in 2017, according to statistics by the Tourism Department. In the first six months this year, the city has already seen 7,193 arrivals. 

"Danang has recently emerged as an attractive destination for foreign visitors. The recent Danang tourism presentation has helped Hong Kong travel agencies gain an in-depth look into luxurious accommodation services as well as the developing MICE market in Danang," observed Johnny Li, managing director, Gateway Group Limited in Hong Kong.

Li, together with other 20 representatives from Tour and MICE companies of Hong Kong were invited on a recent familiarisation trip hotel by Furama Resort Danang. The trip included visits to the beach front area of the Ariyana Convention Centre-Vietnam's largest ballroom that can accommodate up to 15,000 delegates, and the Son Tra peninsula, Ba Na Hill and Marble Mountain, and golfing clubs Montgomerilinks and BRG courses.

Nguyen Duc Quynh, deputy general director, Furama Resort Danang, said that "new direct flights with just nearly two-hour trip" is making Danang a more popular choice for Hong Kong tourists.

Earlier in June, Danang Tourism Department, Furama Resort Danang, together with airlines and local businesses, participated in The 32nd International Travel Expo and the 13th MICE Travel Expo in Hong Kong (ITE & MICE Hong Kong 2018).

Presently, China and Korea make up more than 70% of Danang's tourism market.
