Sydney scores 2026 summit
Sydney has secured hosting rights for the Asia Pacific Circular Hotspot in 2026, winning a competitive bid with a strong focus on Pacific inclusion and circular economy action linked to climate goals.
A global jury selected the proposal led by Circular Australia, the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Business Events Sydney (BESydney) for its strong inclusion of Pacific nations, ambition to strengthen the connection between circular economy and climate action, while addressing pressing waste challenges along the way.
The announcement follows Taiwan’s inaugural Asia Pacific edition of the Circular Hotspot (21–23 October), which drew 500 delegates from 47 countries to share best practices in circular design and innovation.
Circular Australia CEO Lisa McLean said Sydney would seize the opportunity to build new networks and create lasting circular impact.
NSW Premier Chris Minns added: “Hosting the Asia Pacific Circular Economy Hotspot 2026 in Sydney is a testament to NSW's leadership in building a resilient, innovative and sustainable economy. Our state’s ambitious Circular Economy Policy and strong partnerships across government, industry, and research are accelerating our transition to a low-waste, high-value future. Through Choose Circular, we’re using Government procurement as a lever to stimulate innovation and demand for recycled materials.”
The Asia Pacific Circular Hotspot joins a global roster of events that have driven policy and business adoption of circular principles since 2016. In 2026, editions will also be held in Budapest, Riyadh and Gaborone.
