IBTM Americas takes flight with soaring turnout

The first combined IBTM edition for the North and Latin America regions has concluded with more than 12,500 pre-planned meetings over two days.

Held from September 5 to 6 at Mexico City, IBTM Americas drew a surge in both buyers and exhibitor attendance numbers.

Over 400 exhibitors were present at the show from September 5 to 6 at Mexico City, representing a 50 percent more exhibitors compared to last year. International exhibitors made up 54% of the total.

Buyer attendance also saw a 45% increase from last year, with over 785 hosted buyers attending from North America, Latin America and Europe, represented by companies from Nokia, Interamerican Development Bank and AXA Insurance.

The event featured more than 50 tailored knowledge session accredited by the Event Industry Council, ranging from how-to sessions on organising events with minimal environmental impact to disruptive ideas in the business conference space and the future of meetings research.

The show's Innovation Zone by HMD, which showcased the latest startup tech companies, included more than 12 presentations by exhibitors on events innovation. A new highlight this year was a special trends and innovations showcase that included the latest industry developments and its impact on future events.

During the event, hosted buyers visited Mexico City's sights, including a guided tour to the Teotihuacan Pyramids and caves and a welcome party at Jose Luis Cuevas.

Attracting over 4000 visitors each year, IBTM Americas features two days of business matching and information sessions. From 2017, the event is a combination of IBTM's Latin America event with its North American event.

Next year, the event will return from July 2 to 3 in Mexico City.
