Ariyana Convention Centre Danang has welcomed delegates from 183 member countries to Vietnam as part of The Sixth Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly and Associated Meetings taking place from June 23 to 29.
The GEF Assembly, which tackles the planet's most pressing environmental problems, is held every four years. The meeting brings together 1,500 delegates including environment ministers and other senior officials from all its 183 member countries, along with heads of UN agencies, regional development backs, civil society organisations and business leaders to share ideas, solutions and action needed to protect the global environment.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is expected to attend and deliver speech at the opening ceremony of The 6th GEF Assembly June 26. Vietnam was one of the earliest members of the GEF (joining on December 5, 1994).
Commenting on the event, Matthias Wiesmann, general manager of Furama Resort Danang - the management company of Ariyana Convention Centre said: "With the experience of successfully hosting the APEC 2017 Summit, The 6th GEF Assembly and Associated Meetings have been properly prepared by the Ariyana Convention Centre Management Board for several months."
In line with theme of sustainability, the centre has also implemented green activities such as using low carbon and locally-sourced meals rather than imported materials; providing water stations instead of distributing bottled water; and minimising its energy and carbon footprint emission.
