Imagine fighting wave after wave of Stormtroopers with a blaster rifle, twisting and turning as you dodge laser beams. What used to exist only in our imaginations is now a fully immersive VR simulation, and you don't have to travel to a galaxy far far away to experience it.
The Void, a US-based company specialising in virtual reality (VR) entertainment attractions, officially opened its newest centre at Skytropolis Funland at Resorts World Genting last week. It is the company's first and biggest centre in Asia, and also the largest outside of North America.
Using custom VR technology and proprietary-designed equipment including head-mounted displays, backtop computers and haptic vests that deliver sensory effects to multiple points on players, The Void delivers a completely immersive experience compared to conventional location-based VR attractions.
The Genting centre will feature two hyper-reality experiences based on iconic movie franchises. Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire will take guests through a breath-taking journey where they will feel the impact of blaster bolts, smell smoke from the surrounding environment, and interact with their environment to solve puzzles in order to escape their enemies in the virtual world - all this while coordinating with their friends in real time.
Ralph Breaks VR, based on the latest Disney film Ralph Beaks the Internet, will see guests shoot retro alien spaceships, squash pixel bugs, and fend off hordes of bunnies and kittens while teaming up with the movie's protagonists Ralph and Vanellope in the race against time to see who can rack up the highest score.
