Last month, Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore became the first venue in Asia to be given 'Healthy Venue Gold' status, winning recognition for offering delegates a range of wellness and healthy eating options.
Meetings & Conventions Asia looks at four other venues focusing on health and wellness.
Wellness within
Hotel chain Dusit has unveiled a fitness and wellness centre, wellness videos on demand, and a range of complimentary activities, such as beach yoga, body combat sessions, and guided meditation at Dusit Thani Hua Hin in Thailand. Special wellbeing-focused retreats are also available for business travellers. The property has a range of meeting spaces, including the Grand Ballroom, which caters for 1,000 guests.
Healthy by design
The newly-opened 373-room Westin Yokohama in Japan, which opened last month, describes itself as a 'haven of renewal'. Its design draws inspiration from the concept of biophilia, which is built on the premise that a connection to nature enhances wellbeing. The hotel features sound elements such as running water and has incorporated natural stone and timber in the building's architecture. It offers more than 11,000 sqf (1,022 sqm) of indoor and outdoor event space and also features the Westin Garden, an outdoor events space surrounded by greenery.
Food for thought
Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh recently launched new menus at its Market Cafe Restaurant & Lounge and its FiveFive Rooftop & Bar, featuring freshly-sourced seasonal ingredients, and sustainable seafood. Dishes include Kampot crab on toast and cured salmon furikaki. The hotel features the only built-in LED screen in the city, and offers a 459 sqm ballroom and nine multi- functional meeting suites.
Immersive experiences
The Spa at Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita unveiled a series of new immersive wellness experiences in May. The programme is in partnership with South African spa brand TheraNaka, which focuses on harnessing healing abilities of indigenous medicinal plants and herbs, all of which are sustainably sourced. Treatments are designed using organic plants and flowers. The hotel has a meeting space which opens onto a terrace and a private garden, suited to cocktail receptions, small conferences and incentive groups.
