Iconic Hotel Penang will undergo a phased transformation before its scheduled reopening as a Courtyard by Marriott property in December.

Iconic Hotel Penang will be rebranded as Courtyard by Marriott Penang Icon City following a new agreement between Marriott International and Iconic Group, with the transformed property expected to reopen in December 2026.

The move expands Marriott's footprint on Penang Mainland and marks the second collaboration between the two companies after the opening of Iconic Marjorie Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel in 2025.

Located within the four-hectare Icon City mixed-use development in Bukit Mertajam, the existing hotel will undergo a phased refurbishment of its public areas, restaurants, guestrooms and recreational facilities before reopening under the Courtyard by Marriott brand.

The property will offer 196 guestrooms and target both business and leisure travellers.

For the meetings and events market, the rebranded hotel will feature a 640sqm divisible ballroom and two meeting rooms designed for corporate functions and social events.

Its location provides access to the North–South Expressway, Penang International Airport and major industrial hubs including the Prai Free Industrial Zone, Penang Science Park, Batu Kawan Industrial Park and Kulim Hi-Tech Park, positioning the hotel to serve growing corporate and MICE demand on the mainland.
