Taipei Expo Park's latest transformation will see its Expo Dome turn into a massive COVID-19 vaccination centre, the first such facility in the capital.

Formerly a football stadium, the 72,628sqm Expo Dome will now serve as a centre for immunisation services, signaling an important step in the city's MICE sector to support national resilience at this scale.

Within the Expo Dome, there will be 18 vaccination booths, each expected to administer 800 shots daily, Taiwan News reported. This means up to 14,000 individuals could receive their jabs in the MICE venue in a single day.

Speaking at a Covid-19 briefing on Saturday, Mayor Ko Wen-je shared that ambulances will be standing by at a referral zone for those who require medical attention after getting a jab.

According to the Taiwan Covid-19 Dashboard, 585,967 shots have been administered in the city of 2.57 million residents. Taiwan's vaccine drive is expected to get a huge boost after securing 10 million BioNTech doses this week.

Following a recent outbreak, Taipei promptly ramped up its vaccination efforts, including through the launch of an online platform to help citizens more efficiently book their slots.

A series of inoculation programmes has also been rolled out to protect groups at high risk of infection, the Taiwan News report stated.

Adjacent to MRT Yuanshan Station, the Expo Dome was originally a football stadium repurposed for the 2010-2011 Taipei International Flora Exposition.
