Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), which opened its doors in 2020, has placed innovation and inclusivity at the heart of its operations since its launch.

Its primary focus is on attracting business from key destinations in Asia Pacific with direct and connecting flights, including Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, and South Korea.

Led by Hajah Rosmawati as CEO, the state-of-the-art convention centre has now set its sights on positioning itself as a creative space offering state-of-the-art facilities.

“Additionally, our commitment to accessibility makes the convention centre an inclusive choice for events of all scales and nature,” said Rosmawati.

SICC’s versatility is evident in its hosting of various international conferences and events spanning industries like business, medicine, environment, and technology. The centre has successfully hosted events such as ADEX Sabah Ocean Partnership, Miss International Tourism World Final 2023, and Heart of Borneo 2023 International Conference.

This year, SICC is set to host “BE in SABAH”, Sabah’s first Business Events Forum from 29 February to 1 March 2024. With a theme focusing on the gathering of the international business events community, the forum aims to engage stakeholders, foster collaboration, growth and innovation in the industry.

Positioning itself as a key player in the MICE sector, SICC aims to elevate Sabah’s reputation globally. “By hosting of international conferences, trade shows, and events, SICC attracts business travellers and tourists, playing a pivotal role in stimulating economic growth,” she said.

“The increased influx of visitors not only positively impacts the hospitality and service industries but also amplifies the global visibility of the region.”

The venue seeks to integrate Sabah’s cultural richness and natural beauty into events held at its premises, incorporating local elements into its design, traditional performances, art displays, and showcasing local cuisine.

“Not only does this provide a unique experience for attendees, it also promotes the preservation and appreciation of Sabah’s cultural heritage,” said Rosmawati.

SICC’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its eco-friendly practices and technologies. From inverter systems for enhanced energy efficiency to water stations promoting responsible water use, the centre actively participates in recycling and employs a Building Management System for intelligent monitoring and control of its facility.
