What are some significant achievements that have shaped AsiaWorld-Expo’s 20-year legacy?
Over the last two decades, AsiaWorld Expo (AWE) has become a premier venue not just in Hong Kong, but also in the Asia-Pacific region.
Our versatility and capacity to host a wide array of events have been demonstrated through numerous first in-Asia/Hong Kong shows, including The Super Terminal Expo 2024 and Airspace Asia Pacific 2025. Events like Fintech Week and Art Hong Kong Expo highlight our operational prowess and broad appeal across diverse industries, while exhibitions like the Global Sources Hong Kong Show and Jewellery & Gem WORLD Hong Kong have also showcased our versatility in hosting a variety of trade shows.
Beyond business events, AWE has established itself as a leading venue for public entertainment in Hong Kong. Our innovative approach to blending exhibitions with entertainment – what we call “EXPOtainment” – includes events like the first international edition of ComplexCon in 2024, a celebrated pop-culture festival, and KCON. Plus, our strategic location next to Hong Kong International Airport and within the vibrant SKYCITY development helps to facilitate global connectivity and enhance visitor experiences.
As AsiaWorld-Expo marks its 20th anniversary, it stands as a testament to Hong Kong’s prominence as a global hub for business, entertainment, and innovation.What motivates AWE to pursue unconventional events in Asia?
We are driven by a vision to spark further tourism and economic activity in Hong Kong. Hosting unique events like Lions International Convention 2026 – scheduled for July 2026 – and the first ever London Horse Show in Asia – which will make its debut in February 2025 – will attract thousands of visitors to AWE and Hong Kong. These will showcase Hong Kong’s logistical excellence and diverse attractions, while significantly benefitting the local tourism industry.
What exciting developments can planners look forward to from AWE?
AWE is currently undergoing a HK$1 billion (US$129 million) renovation to enhance digitalisation, sustainability, and visitor satisfaction. Most of the enhancements are already in service. For instance, the introduction of retractable seat risers at AsiaWorld-Arena has significantly reduced dismantling time and enhanced venue set-up efficiency. Moreover, operation procedures such as service ordering have been digitalised, enhancing communication while reducing paper use.
Looking ahead, we are excited about the Phase 2 development of AWE, which will feature the largest indoor multipurpose performance arena in Hong Kong, boasting over 20,000 seats. This expansion will increase AWE’s convention and exhibition space from 70,000sqm to 100,000sqm, further solidifying Hong Kong’s position as a prime destination for large-scale international events.
