GCCEC reports 92.91 tonnes of food organics diverted from landfill, 150,000 bottles collected and recycled in a year.
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is tracking ahead of key targets in its five-year sustainability plan, reporting strong waste diversion results at the close of year two.
A structured waste management plan is now in place, driving a consistent approach to how waste is managed, separated and processed in all areas of the venue.
Over two years, GCCEC diverted 92.91 tonnes of food organics away from landfill and to commercial composting.
The waste diversion results translate to 195.1 tonnes equivalent of Co2 emissions from the atmosphere, GCCEC says.
For its 10c container programme, GCCEC recorded a total of 150,000 bottles collected and recycled in the second year.
The results support several key objective areas in GCCEC’s 2024 to 2028 Sustainability Strategy, including landfill diversion, carbon reduction, auditing and data tracking, certification and community benefit.
The plan is supported by business procedures, regular auditing and ongoing refinement, ensuring a consistent approach to waste management across the venue.
New tracking and reporting platform
Alongside its EarthCheck Master recertification, marking more than seventeen years of continuous benchmarking, GCCEC has adopted an environment, health and safety platform into daily operations.
The platform gives real-time visibility across waste streams and sustainability metrics, strengthening reporting and supporting evidence-based decision making.
These systems have increased the Centre’s capacity to expand initiatives such as the 10c container programme.
