Unearthed Productions, NTUC LearningHub (NTUC LHUB), and the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS) are jointly delivering a new certification programme in Singapore, designed to raise AV industry standards within the MICE and hospitality sectors.

The new course, WSQ Fundamentals of Audio, Visual, and Lighting Systems – the first AV specialist certification specifically aimed at the events industry, equips professionals with real-world audio, visual, and lighting (AVL) skills and provides a strong foundation for those working toward the AVS (Audio Visual Specialist) certification.

Graduates who successfully complete the full programme will be awarded the recognised AVS, which can be added to their names and professional titles, similar to the CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) designation.

Targeted at aspiring and experienced AV technicians, MICE professionals and hospitality practitioners, the 16-hour course blends theory and hands-on learning using industry-grade equipment. Participants will learn how to inspect, troubleshoot and operate AV systems in line with safety protocols and client requirements. The course is part of Singapore’s national Workforce Skills Qualification framework, with funding available for eligible trainees.

Adam Piperdy, founder and chief experience officer of events agency Unearthed Productions said: "We've seen firsthand how skilled AV professionals can transform event experiences from good to exceptional. The course uses the latest and actual industry equipment, so participants graduate with the hands-on skills that event organisers genuinely need.”

Tay Ee Learn, assistant chief executive & chief sector skills officer of NTUC LearningHub added: "We are seeing a demand for AV professionals who can work with the latest technology in Singapore's growing MICE sector. Working with Unearthed Productions gives us access to current industry practices and real-world insights.

Singapore Tourism Board welcomed this collaboration, saying that as business events grow increasingly sophisticated, cutting-edge audio-visual expertise has become essential to delivering world-class experiences.

Rachel Loh, executive director, Hospitality & Tourism Talent at Singapore Tourism Board said: “In line with STB’s Tourism 2040 roadmap, the industry-validated AVS certification programme not only builds critical capabilities but also creates promising career pathways in this dynamic field. It also helps to strengthen Singapore's position as the world’s best MICE city while offering professionals the opportunity to be part of our thriving business events ecosystem, supporting our long-term vision for sustained growth in MICE tourism.”

The three bodies signed a Partnership Agreement to deliver the course at CatchUP 2025, an annual industry gathering hosted by Unearthed Productions.
