Augmented reality experiences. Moxy Hotels, part of Marriott Bonvoy, launched its ‘Moxy Universe, Play Beyond’ augmented reality experience in 12 of its Asia Pacific hotels this summer. It aims to offer guests a fun and immersive experience, where they unlock a number of challenges to enhance their stay. Guests can step into Bar Moxy – the social heart of the hotel, which doubles up as the hotel's front desk and offers guests a "Got Moxy" cocktail upon check-in. After getting their room keys, guests can scan the QR marker at the bar to view holographic projections and take photos with life-sized avatars as they sip curated cocktails. Guests can also use an avatar to help them exercise in the hotels' fitness centres. The experiences are available until the end of this year.

Interactive venue mapping tools. The International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney launched an interactive venue map last week, enabling event organisers to plan and promote their events at the venue. The new tool includes interactive 3D floor plans of every level and space across the convention, exhibition and entertainment venue, alongside 360/VR and standard images, capacity and room information. The new tool utilises the latest Microsoft web-based technology and once downloaded, can be used with or without wi-fi capability.

AI for zero waste: Hotel group Iberostar, which operates properties in Europe, the US and Latin America, has installed technology in more than 100 of its hotels to prevent the waste of five million meals per year and to reduce its C02 emissions. Commercial food waste system Winnow is being implemented within Iberostar kitchens, tracking what is thrown away and how staff can make smarter decisions based on real data. The kitchen staff use a tablet to identify discarded food, while a camera identifies food items. A scale measures the weight and sends a message to the chef, indicating the cost, weight, and quantity of food discarded. All this data is uploaded to the Cloud, where the food waste from each day is recorded and analysed.

The latest in LED: Pan Pacific Hotels Group is set to open the Hotel Groove Shinjuku, a Parkroyal hotel, in spring next year, which will host events, celebrations and gatherings. The hotel will feature private event rooms on the 17th Floor, alongside an open-air East Terrace, featuring an outdoor LED screen for movie events, media showcases and more. Some rooms will also feature a large wall-mounted screen, enabling guests to connect their own devices and enjoy their favourite media.
