The top thing that planners hate when considering venues

A recent survey shows hidden fees are a deal-breaker for event planners.

A recent survey conducted by The Delegate Wranglers has revealed that event buyers have an overwhelming distaste for hidden terms and conditions, as well as unclear additional fees, when considering venue offers and incentives.

“This insight demonstrates that it doesn’t all come down to price,” said Neil Thompson, founder and managing director of The Delegate Wranglers. “Event planners are seeking value-added incentives, and being transparent with any terms and conditions is essential.”

When it came to incentives, nearly all event bookers surveyed shared that they would consider a venue for an event if it came with an exclusive offer or booking incentive, and approximately two-thirds of event bookers shared that they would be more motivated by “value-driven incentives” such as extra add-ons, enhanced packages and an overall better deal for the venue.

The survey also revealed that all event planners expected venue deals on “quieter” or off-peak days such as Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. For event bookers, the most attractive deals were found to be venue hire discounts or offers on complimentary services such as AV or catering options.

Venues and event bookers also need to communicate more effectively, with each side preferring a different way of reaching out. Venues prefer to prioritise direct email over email newsletters, while event bookers have shared that they would rather receive email newsletters from venues before checking out the venue’s website.
