FCM has launched a global carbon offsetting programme with sustainability consultancy South Pole to help clients neutralise the carbon impact arising from their business travel, including global flights, hotel accommodation, rail bookings, car rental and other business travel components.
CO2 emissions can be calculated, recorded and reported monthly or quarterly on a global scale, per item for each client. These emissions can be offset by contributing to up to a number of climate action projects.
FCM and South Pole have identified a list of 12 positive environmental impact projects worldwide, including forestry conservation in Zimbabwe, clean water programmes in Cambodia, and harnessing clean energy in China.
All these are listed on FCM's new tech platform, where a sustainability dashboard shows travellers their individual statistics in terms of travel CO2 emissions and enables travel managers to see total carbon footprint and the CO2 savings achieved each month.
Future plans are in place for the sustainability dashboard to also show carbon credit reporting for each client, and how emissions translate into offsetting credits and projects.
Marcus Eklund, global managing director, FCM said: “We’re making sustainability a core pillar of our customer offering for 2021, putting greater focus on guiding and supporting clients with their objectives, particularly in terms of CO2 reporting and a carbon offsetting solution that enables them to contribute to positive climate action."
Similarly, CWT recently committed to building programmes that will significantly reduce its environmental footprint.
The travel management platform will follow Science Based Targets (SBTs) — which are greenhouse gas emissions reduction markers — required to keep global temperature increase within 1.5ºC to 2ºC, compared to pre-industrial temperature levels.
“We will be collaborating closely with our entire value chain on how to support each other in reaching our climate targets, further contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and work towards transitioning to a low-carbon economy," said Françoise Grumberg, CWT’s VP, global responsible business and diversity & inclusion.
