Northstar Travel Group has promoted Jason Gewirtz to the role of SVP of content, meetings and sports for Northstar Meetings Group, effective immediately. In this expanded role, Gewirtz will lead Northstar’s global content strategy across the meetings and sports portfolios, shaping strategic direction, strengthening key partner relationships and guiding how content is delivered across platforms and events.
"Jason has been an exceptional leader and a driving force behind the growth of our sports division. He brings a rare combination of editorial excellence, market insight and strategic thinking that aligns with where we’re headed as a company," said Bob Sullivan, chief commercial officer and president of Northstar Travel Group. "As we continue to invest in our meetings and sports portfolios, I’m confident Jason will play a critical role in how we serve our audiences and partners worldwide."
Sports tourism has become a key driver of both the global travel and meetings markets – representing more than 10% of global tourism and continuing to grow – while the broader MICE sector is expanding at an estimated 9% a year. As these sectors evolve, the connection between sports and the wider meetings ecosystem is becoming increasingly central to how destinations, venues and brands drive demand.
Managing several media and event brands
NMG offers a leading meetings and sports portfolio, including events such as The Meetings Show, the TEAMS and TEAMS Europe conferences, and the EsportsTravel Summit, connecting the professionals and decision-makers who shape these markets. Its media brands include SportsTravel, Meetings & Conventions, Incentive and Successful Meetings in the United States, Meetings & Incentive Travel and Association Meetings International in the United Kingdom, and M&C Asia.
"I’m excited to take on this expanded role at a time when the meetings and sports sectors are evolving rapidly," Gewirtz said. "There’s a real opportunity to deliver content that not only informs, but provides perspective and connects our audiences to the conversations shaping the industry."
Gewirtz has been a key member of NMG’s Sports Division since its formation in 2017 and has led the division since 2022. He began his tenure with the SportsTravel brand as managing editor in 2008. Over that time, he has established himself as a respected voice in the sports tourism industry, with leadership and editorial expertise that have been instrumental in the division’s growth and influence.
