Nicholas Wong has been appointed the new general manager of Destination Asia Singapore, succeeding Matthew Smith, who now leads the destination management company (DMC) as CEO.

Wong first joined the company in 2018 as director of leisure and will be using his extensive experience to lead the team in capitalising upon the demand growth across the company’s three core business divisions of leisure, MICE and cruise.

“Travellers are seeking customised itineraries more than ever before, with a specific focus on immersive cultural experiences and sustainable travel options,” said Wong. “With a rising demand for wellness travel and safe, luxurious cruise options for families, our team has an exciting opportunity to expand offerings in these areas.”

Over the past year, the team in Singapore has experienced record leisure travel bookings, with increased demand from across each of their source markets including Northern Europe, North America, as well as an increased interest from South America.

Singapore also remains a top destination for corporate travel, with its unique blend of modern infrastructure and rich cultural experiences, according to the DMC.
