Millennial and Gen Z business travellers want to travel more for business, are booking their own trips, favour cost, convenience and reliability when choosing suppliers, and also consider sustainability when booking flights and hotels.

These are some of the overall findings from a report from Corporate Travel Management, which surveyed 702 Millennial and Gen Z employees in March 2025, looking at how much they travel, what they love about it, how they book it and their criteria for choosing suppliers.

CTM’s global COO, Eleanor Noonan, said: “Millennials already make up roughly 75% of the global workforce, closely followed by Gen Zs, and as future business decision makers, it’s critical that we acknowledge and understand their unique views and expectations of business travel.”

More business travel wanted

Of those surveyed, 86% of respondents flew on business at least once per year, with 70% flying between one and five times. However, 55% would like to travel more for business. When asked what they enjoy most about travelling for business, the top three reasons were: experiencing new destinations, collaborating with colleagues and partners and taking a break from routine.

A mix of business and leisure

Looking at data from Asia, Millennial and Gen Z travellers in Singapore and Hong Kong are most likely to extend business trips with a few days of leisure, while those in Australia fly the most for business.

Those in Singapore and Hong Kong also showed the strongest demand for environmentally sustainable services when compared to other regions such as North America - 75% for airlines, 69% for hotels and 59% for car rental services.

Does sustainability come into consideration?

Singapore and Hong Kong also had the highest expectations for employers to pay more for sustainable business travel (76%) and 90% of those in these two destinations also said they expect the importance of business travel to increase in line with their professional experience and seniority, compared to 70% globally.

Top factors in selecting flights

When asked which features are most important when selecting an airline, the top three responses globally are price, flight schedules (convenience), and on-time performance (reliability). Hong Kong is the only region that indicated ‘safety record’ as one of its top three features. All others featured the global choices outlined above.
