Italy-based DMC TerraEvents has teamed up with sustainability warrior Treedom to offset carbon emissions at its events through a global tree-planting initiative.

The world's first platform in the world to allow anyone to plant a tree and follow its progress online, Treedom will plant tree species native to or respect the biodiversity of the specific region selected, with the trees and their fruits belonging to farmers who plant them. Financing the planting of the new trees serves to support the trees' care in the first years of their life when they are not yet productive in terms of fruit.

By taking on the role of ambassador for Treedom within the hospitality and events sector in Europe, TerraEvents is allowing its clients to join in this important environmental and social mission.

With this initiative, not only will the clients of TerraEvents be given the possibility, through a simple click, to choose their very own tree, they will also become active contributors to the environmental and social benefits afforded to local communities.

TerraEvents CEO Heather Williams said the DMC first started a tree-planting initiative internally before expanding the initiative to assist their clients with adding sustainable elements to their events including tree-planting options.

CEO of TerraEvents, Heather Williams, in a recent Australia and New Zealand visit, said talking about sustainability is no longer sufficient.

“We have to understand our planet needs each of us to act now in making decisions, both in our business and personal lives, which focus on sustainability and environmental regeneration,” she said.

“In Treedom we believe we’ve found the right partner, supporting us in our pledge to ensuring a better, brighter and above all greener future for our planet.”

Williams said in the past two years TerraEvents started a tree-planting initiative internally, providing trees to its staff, and with its clients began adding sustainable elements to their events including tree-planting options.

A partnership with Treedom has since followed with TerraEvents now assisting farmers around the world and helping to offset carbon emissions from client events.

“Clients are wanting to get more involved and they want to make a difference,” she said.

TerraEvents and Treedom now have an objective of planting at least 3,000 trees over the next three years.

Since it was founded in 2010 in Italy, Treedom has been responsible for the planting of more than three million trees. All trees are planted directly by local farmers, bringing environmental, social and financial benefits to their communities.

Partner and head of corporate marketing at Treedom, Anna Ciattini, said Treedom is creating “long-term benefits for local communities and for the planet which totally embodies the purpose of our partnership with TerraEvents, demonstrating a sustained commitment over time to all stakeholders”.
