With a focus on carbon reduction and promoting sustainability in
Taiwan's MICE industry, The Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOTC) has rolled
out a sustainability action plan to help industry players achieve the
goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
With the implementation of the BOTC's ‘Sustainable MICE, Taking
Strides Towards Net Zero’ project, the MICE industry's growth and
enhancement will be directed towards sustainability, which will further
enhance Taiwan's sustainable MICE and international image.
The project comprises three segments:
Evaluation and guidance indicates providing
resources to help MICE companies reduce their carbon emissions,
including the Taiwan MICE Sustainability White Paper, ISO
certifications, and corporate sustainability reports. Customised
consultation services are available through the MEET TAIWAN program to
help companies transition towards sustainability.
Speaking out and taking action involves promoting
Taiwan's sustainable MICE industry globally. The BOTC and JMIC (Joint
Meetings Industry Council) co-organised an event during COP 28 to
promote the net zero initiative, the Taiwan MICE Sustainability White
Paper, and carbon reduction results of Taiwan's MICE industry. The 100 x
100 campaign also called on 100 MICE stakeholders to carry out 100
sustainable MICE actions, jointly engaging in sustainable MICE.
Encouragement and honour
recognises Taiwan's MICE companies for their efforts and contributions
to sustainable MICE. The annual Sustainable MICE Awards highlight SDGs
and carbon reduction with an SDGs Action Award and a Carbon Reduction
Action Award. Companies are encouraged to submit their sustainability
actions for consideration and exchange with MICE peers.
