Sarawak’s drive to redefine business events through long-term impact took the spotlight at IMEX Frankfurt 2025, where Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) officially launched the global phase of its revamped Tribe Legacy Sarawak campaign, under the new tagline “Driving Impact Together”.

Following its national debut earlier this year and regional unveiling at The Meetings Show Asia Pacific (TMS APAC) last month in Singapore, the campaign signals Sarawak’s bold ambition to become the Legacy Capital of Business Events in Malaysia and Borneo by 2030.

“We are ahead of schedule with our initiatives under the Legacy Impact Master Action Plan (Legacy MAP) 2023-2025,” said Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak. “For example, the Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards has evolved to now include participation on a global scale. This early progress is a testament to our commitment to reinforce Sarawak as the legacy capital for business events in Malaysia and Borneo by 2030.”

A trio of transformative tools

At the heart of BESarawak’s approach are three initiatives working in tandem:

  • AI.LEGACY Intelligent Impact Management System: Developed in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), this AI-powered tool helps planners measure and manage the long-term impact of events, whether on talent development, scientific progress, or social inclusion.

  • Legacy360: A stakeholder-driven platform uniting government, community, and industry to co-create event strategies aligned with sustainable development goals (SDGs) and local needs.

  • Borneo Inspire Legacy Awards (BILA): Now open to international applicants, BILA recognises events and organisations that demonstrate tangible social, environmental, or economic benefits.

“Our three key offerings – AI.LEGACY, Legacy360, and BILA 2025 – are complementary to each other towards a holistic framework to enhance the long-term impact of business events, starting first with Sarawak and then the world,” Roziman added.

These initiatives are built on Sarawak’s broader sustainability ambitions, including the forthcoming Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, which will serve as the government’s roadmap to transition to a green economy.

These initiatives support Sarawak’s wider sustainability ambitions, including the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, expected to launch at the end of May. This roadmap aims to guide Sarawak’s transition to a green economy while embedding sustainability in tourism and business events.

"The Sarawak government has consistently led the way in advancing the green economy and sustainable energy,” said Datuk Snowdan Lawan, deputy minister for creative industry and performing arts. “By championing legacy impact, Sarawak fully supports and strengthens the business events sector with BESarawak, ensuring that events contribute to long-term economic, environmental, and social progress.”
