Having successfully served as a media centre in the recently concluded Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, China National Convention Centre (CNCC) is on track to begin its second phase as China’s premier international convention centre in early 2024.

Designed by French architect Christian de Portzamparc, CNCC is expected to cut a modern profile in the city’s skyline. Its 24-metre-high atrium sets the tone for its architectural finesse, while two rooftop gardens with a retractable roof brings delegates closer to the panoramic experience of the city’s busy skyline.

The centre features 420,000 sqm of convention space, with a 7,000 sqm divisible plenary hall and 25,000 sqm of exhibition floor space on the lower level. The second floor has over 35,000 sqm of conference and meeting rooms in sizes ranging from 100 to 2,000 sqm. On the top floor, there is over 35,000 sqm of function space comprising three banquet halls and two gardens. There are over 30 VIP lounges spread across the three floors.

It is expected to host conferences, forums, banquets, and other commercial events for up to 20,000 pax, as well as exhibition events for more than 50,000 pax. The centre also comprises an office building, boutique retail outlets, and two hotels – a Ritz-Carlton and a Marriott Marquis.

“Beijing, as the capital of China, attracts many high-profile events with global influence. The convention centre’s target market includes high-profile intergovernmental meetings, international association meetings, Fortune 500 company meetings, banquets, niche exhibitions and special events,” said Rod Kamleshwaran, COO & Partner of GainingEdge, an international consulting company for convention centres and business events.

GainingEdge has been appointed by Beijing North Star Convention and Exhibition Investment Co., Ltd., the investor and developer of CNCC, to drive pre-opening operational and marketing initiatives from 2021 to 2025.
