Hong Kong Airlines is set to launch a new direct service to Sydney, Australia on 20 June 2025, making the carrier the second Hong Kong-based airline to serve this route.
The new service will be operated by A330-300 aircraft, featuring both business and economy class cabins. HX017 will depart Hong Kong at 22:25, arriving in Sydney at 09:50 the following day. The return flight, HX018, will take off from Sydney at 11:30, landing in Hong Kong at 19:15.
Hong Kong Airlines' new service to Sydney follows the successful resumption of seasonal flights to the Gold Coast in January 2025, making it Hong Kong Airlines' second Australian destination this year. The airline has resumed services to destinations such as Vancouver, marking its return to the long-haul market.
The latest announcement was made during a signing ceremony held at Sydney Airport, attended by officials from Hong Kong Airlines, Sydney Airport, the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney and the tourism board.
Jeff Sun, Hong Kong Airlines president, highlighted the capacity increase at Hong Kong International Airport as another noteworthy achievement, which now allows the airport to handle 120 million passengers and 10 million tonnes of cargo annually. "The three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport has increased the capacity for additional flights, and with the support of the two governments and related organisations, we are delighted to become the second Hong Kong-based airline to operate in Sydney,” he added.
