The AI Life Sense Alert System sends an alarm via hand-held devices within five seconds to give quick help if an accident is detected.
Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) is taking visitor
safety to the next level with the installation of the AI Life Sense
Alert System in its toilets. The system, set to be completed by the end
of this month for 61 toilets, uses artificial intelligence to detect
distress signals and provide timely assistance to attendees in need.
Monica Lee-Müller, managing director at HKCEC, emphasised the
importance of upgrading the centre's hardware and software to enhance
visitor safety. “We have taken the precautionary move to introduce the
AI Life Sense Alert System so that our staff can provide timely
assistance to visitors in distress during an emergency. The key is to
reach the visitors in need as soon as possible so as not to miss the
golden hour between life and death,” she said.
The AI Life Sense Alert System, which has already been introduced in
public hospitals, can detect a toilet user’s posture (active or static;
seated or lying down) and collect motion value for AI-enabled analysis
to identify if a fall or accident has taken place, or the toilet user
has become motionless.
In the event of an identified accident, the system will send out an
alert within five seconds via hand-held devices such as mobile phones or
tablets. Staff will be able to locate the toilet and get there
speedily. At the same time, the security control room will also receive
the alert to allow for rapid additional manpower deployment. The system
will provide help to visitors in need within the critical life-saving
golden timeframe.
The system also offers humidity, temperature and air quality
readings, which helps to monitor the environment in the toilets and
adjustment of cleaning frequency to improve visitor experience and
efficiency.
HKCEC has been adopting the application of AI and robotics to enhance
its operations and service. Besides offering 5G service with 100%
coverage across the entire 306,000 sqm space, HKCEC has introduced 5G
smart security robots and smart cleaning robots as part of its water
conservation features.
