After more than two decades helping put Sarawak on the global business events map, Amelia Roziman isn’t slowing down following her recent departure from Business Events Sarawak.

The former chief executive built a reputation as one of the industry’s most outspoken champions of legacy-driven events – the belief that congresses and conventions should leave a meaningful impact long after delegates depart.

Now, through her new consultancy, LegacyMade, she is taking that mission beyond Sarawak and onto the global stage.

M&C Asia catches up with Amelia on her latest endeavour.

M&C Asia: What is LegacyMade, and what are the aims and objectives of launching this venture?

Amelia: LegacyMade represents the next chapter of my journey in the business events industry, shaped by more than two decades of experience championing the power of events to create lasting impact.

For many years, I have believed that events, organisations, sectors, and destinations should aspire to be more than transactional platforms. When designed with intention, they can become catalysts for innovation, knowledge exchange, community empowerment, and long-term societal progress.

I founded LegacyMade to continue advancing that philosophy – the idea that what we convene today should leave meaningful value for tomorrow.

While I lead the vision and strategic direction of the venture, LegacyMade is intentionally structured as a collaborative ecosystem. We work alongside global experts, industry leaders, academics, and cross-sector partners who share the conviction that events can be powerful instruments of transformation.

Our aim is to help destinations, organisations, and institutions design initiatives that generate legacy outcomes that extend far beyond the closing ceremony.

What does your new role as chief consultant at LegacyMade entail?

As chief consultant, my team and I work with organisations to design strategies that connect events and initiatives with broader economic, social, and developmental priorities.

Our work involves advising governments, destination marketing organisations, associations, and corporations on how to leverage events as platforms for long-term impact. This includes developing legacy frameworks for international congresses, strengthening destination positioning, curating leadership dialogues, and supporting initiatives that integrate tourism, sports, innovation, and community development.

LegacyMade operates across industries and geographies because the most meaningful legacy outcomes often emerge at the intersection of sectors. Collaboration between different disciplines is where new ideas, solutions, and opportunities truly take shape.

What continues to motivate and excite you about the business events industry? What kind of impact do you hope to make now that you’re no longer tied to one destination?

What has always inspired me about the business events industry is its extraordinary ability to bring together people, ideas, and institutions at pivotal moments in time.

When the right minds convene, conversations can evolve into collaborations, collaborations into innovation, and innovation into progress that benefits communities and industries alike. That transformative potential is what continues to motivate me.

Having spent many years advocating for legacy-driven events, I remain deeply committed to advancing that agenda on a broader global stage.

Not being tied to a single destination now allows me the opportunity to contribute across multiple ecosystems. My aspiration is to help more destinations and organisations recognise events not merely as gatherings, but as strategic platforms for knowledge transfer, talent development, and long-term societal value.

Amelia Roziman, founder & chief consultant, LegacyMade

You had a long career at BESarawak. Any words for BESarawak or the business events sector in general?

My time with BESarawak was one of the most meaningful chapters of my professional life.

Together with an exceptional team and visionary stakeholders, we demonstrated that a destination like Sarawak could lead the global conversation on legacy-driven business events. The journey was never about individual achievement – it was about collective belief, collaboration, and the courage to reimagine what events could accomplish for communities.

I carry immense gratitude for BESarawak and everyone who was part of that journey.

To the wider business events community, my passion for the industry remains as strong as ever. Our sector holds immense potential to convene ideas, accelerate knowledge, and inspire solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

But with that potential also comes responsibility. The future of our industry must be defined not only by the scale of events we host, but by the impact they create.

And I look forward to continuing to contribute to that evolution – just from a different seat.
