The Japanese city of Yokohama has introduced its “Yokohama Tourism and MICE Strategy”, which will see the city’s efforts toward attracting tourists and events, growing and developing the city by 2030.
With a focus on sustainable tourism and MICE with businesses and residents throughout Yokohama, the city has outlined four key strategies:
1. Creating a city brimming with diverse charm and inspiring experiences, showcasing Yokohama's vibrant waterfront, historic port opening, cultural arts
2. Strengthening the position of Yokohama as a global MICE city, by capitalising on the city’s unique attributes to entice economically significant international conferences and medical conventions
3. Stimulating the city’s economy and enhancing human resources, nurturing the businesses, research entities and startups to booth the MICE industry’s productivity and value
4. Advancing sustainable tourism and MICE by engaging the local economy while emphasising preserving the environment and fostering cultural continuity
Yokohama has stated its goal is to bring tourism spending in 2030 to 500 billion yen (US$3.4 billion).
