The Western Australian government has launched a five-year strategy to increase the economic value of the business events sector, which Tourism Research Australia estimates is worth A$1.7 billion (US$1.2 billion).

The Western Australia Business Events Strategy 2026–2030 outlines plans to attract high-value events, encourage delegates to extend their stays, and disperse visitors beyond Perth to regional areas.

Developed with Business Events Perth, the plan also calls for closer coordination among government agencies, venues, hotels, event organisers, airlines and tourism operators.

In the 2025–26 period, Business Events Perth secured hundreds of national and international events whose delegates are expected to account for more than 320,000 hotel room nights through 2030, according to . The events are forecast to generate more than A$394.9 million in direct delegate spending for the visitor economy.

Beyond tourism, the government also looks to business events as a way to bring together decision-makers, investors, researchers and industry leaders from key industries, Premier and Tourism, Trade and Investment Minister Roger Cook stated.

“By attracting [business events] aligned with WA’s key industries, we can foster connections, facilitate knowledge exchange, and strengthen our state’s global reputation as a strategic hub for business opportunities,” Cook said.

Recognising this “far-reaching value”, the 2026-27 State Budget included a A$10 million increase in funding over two years for Business Events Perth.

Business Events Perth will be “crucial to support the delivery of this strategy”, according to Cook.
