Malaysia's business events industry significantly outperformed its annual targets in 2025, with international delegate arrivals surging almost 80% above expectations as the country accelerates efforts to become one of Asia's top five business events destinations by 2030.
According to the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau's (MyCEB) new Annual Report 2025, the country welcomed more than 867,000 international delegates last year, comfortably exceeding its target of 482,000 by 79.9%
The result follows another strong year in 2024, when delegate arrivals reached 661,000 against a target of 419,000.
Meanwhile, international delegate spending generated 3.99 billion ringgit (US$980 million) in economic impact in 2025, surpassing the 3.16 billion ringgit target by more than 800 million ringgit. In 2024, delegate spending reached 3.4 billion ringgit, also well ahead of the 2.73 billion ringgit forecast.
Malaysia also hosted 393 international business events in 2025, exceeding its annual target of 233 events. This builds on 2024's performance, when 285 events were secured against a target of 210.
Malaysia's Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Sri Tiong King Sing, said: “Our strategy remains focused on quality over quantity. By bringing global decision-makers, investors and industry pioneers to our shores, business events reinforce Malaysia's standing as a competitive investment hub. This influx of high-value participants does more than boost tourism receipts; it seeds long-term partnerships and attracts sustainable investment inflows that fortify our industrial ecosystem.”
The results come as MyCEB pursues an ambitious Strategic Marketing Plan (SMP) that aims to position Malaysia among Asia's top five business events powerhouses by 2030, while embedding business events as a strategic economic development tool across government ministries and agencies.
One of the plan's key priorities is deeper government integration, with business events to be incorporated into national planning and policy across ministries by 2030.
The strategy already aligns with Malaysia's Shared Prosperity Vision 2030, the National Tourism Policy 2020–2030 and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture's strategic plan.
Chairman of the board of MyCEB, Sivakumar A/L Varatharaju Naidu, said stronger governance and financial accountability have enhanced the bureau's effectiveness and strengthened industry confidence.
“Strengthened governance, integrity and compliance frameworks ensure that MyCEB operates with transparency, discipline and consistency, reinforcing Malaysia's position as a trusted Business Events destination. At the same time, MyCEB has taken steps to strengthen industry support through improved subvention processes and stronger financial accountability. These efforts have built greater efficiency, transparency and stakeholder confidence, positioning MyCEB as a reliable partner in driving industry growth.”
