Hong Kong Comic Con to launch in 2026

Hong Kong is set to host its first official Comic Con, with the inaugural Hong Kong Comic Con (HKCC) scheduled for 29-31 May 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

Launched by fandom and live entertainment IP investment studio Optics Ventures, HKCC marks a major milestone for the city’s exhibition calendar, establishing a new platform for global entertainment IP and pop culture activation in the region.

HKCC will allow global IP holders in comics, manga, film, gaming, anime, toys, and collectibles to connect with fans in Greater China and beyond through experiential events. “We are not just funding an event; we are investing in a key infrastructure for the regional entertainment ecosystem,” said an Optics Ventures spokesperson.

The convention will be led by Andrew Lee, a veteran of the Asia-Pacific attractions and leisure industry. As HKCC managing director, he will oversee strategy, operations, and commercial development. The team is also collaborating closely with experienced operators of Comic Cons globally, including esteemed Hollywood broker John Alcantar, who provides strategic advice and execution support.

“Hong Kong is the perfect gateway to launch a pan-Asian pop culture spectacle,” said Lee. “We are building more than a convention; we are creating a localised hub for global fandoms. This is an unparalleled opportunity for international IP holders and brands to engage directly with Asian audiences through immersive experiences.”

HKCC continues the legacy of San Diego Comic Con and its international spin-offs, including Tokyo Comic Con and Singapore Comic Con in Asia, which respectively drew around 80,000 and 50,000 attendees in recent editions.

With the San Diego Comic Con’s attendance topping 130,000 in recent years and maxing out convention centre capacity, the event has also grown to include satellite locations such as hotels and outdoor parks.
