Lufthansa is turning up the heat on short- and medium-haul dining, adding five hot meals to its economy class offering from 1 September 2026.

The move expands the airline’s Onboard Delights catering programme, introduced in February 2023. Before this update, the menu previously offered fresh, cold, and packaged items such as salads, sandwiches and baked goods, alongside a selection of items that can be pre-ordered before departure.

The new hot meals will be available exclusively through pre-order on continental routes with flight times of two hours or more.

Passengers can place their orders from four weeks to 24 hours before departure, giving them a guaranteed meal waiting onboard.

The new menu includes beef roulade with potato dumplings, chicken teriyaki, tortellini in tomato sauce with zucchini, “Die Echte” currywurst from Dönninghaus, and a cheeseburger from Hans Im Gluck.

The beef roulade, chicken teriyaki and tortellini come with dessert, while the currywurst is served in classic style with a roll.

More choice for longhaul Business Class

Lufthansa is also widening its pre-select service for Business Class passengers on longhaul flights.

Since August 2023, Business Class passengers departing from Frankfurt and Munich have been able to pre-select their main course before flying. From 1 September, the service will expand to most longhaul flights returning to Germany.

The number of main-course options will also double, with passengers able to choose from six dishes instead of three.

Pre-selection will be available from four weeks until 24 hours before departure.
