Mumbai’s largest convention centre is in the works, with the plans also including a luxury on-site hotel.

According to reports in several local media outlets, Indian conglomerate Adani Group is investing US$2 billion into the build, which will be located in the Vile Parle area of the city, close to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, which Adani Group also owns.

Reports cited that the plans for the design have also been given the go-head by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), with formal approval for the blueprint expected in two months.

The new venue, dubbed the ‘international convention centre’ will span more than 140,000 square metres and could cater for up to 20,000 people, while the build includes plans for a five-star hotel.

Mumbai’s existing Jio World Convention Centre, part of Reliance Industries, is located in the city’s central business district, Bandra Kurla Complex, and has an area totalling around 93,000 square metres.
