The Grand Lisboa Palace Art Gallery has debuted in Macao, offering visitors a dedicated space charting more than 500 years of the destination’s history and culture.

Operated by SJM, which owns and operates the Grand Lisboa Palace resort and the Grand Lisboa hotel and casino, the gallery is located on Level 2 of Grand Lisboa Palace. It marked its debut with the inaugural exhibition, ‘The Lisboa, Stories of Macau’, which pays tribute to Macau’s rich cultural heritage. The exhibition delves into the city’s historical landmarks, folk traditions, urban narratives, personal stories and interactive experiences, offering visitors an immersive journey through over 500 years of history and cultural fusion.

The gallery also includes a dedicated art and creative space that will be open to artists and cultural organisations worldwide, hosting diverse exhibitions and artistic programmes. SJM says this space will serve as a vital platform for local cultural education and artistic development, providing opportunities for artists to showcase their work and engage in cross-cultural exchanges.

A decision to fast-track the opening of another cultural venue has also been announced. Plans for the UNESCO World Heritage Exhibition Hall, to be built beside the Ruins of St Paul, were announced back in 2023.

Earlier this week, the acting vice president of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Ho Hong Pan said construction on the venue would be accelerated. Once built, the building is expected to be three and half storeys high and span 7,600sqm, and will showcase Macao’s world heritage sites.
